General Manager, Athlete Conceirge
Being involved in athletics has always been a priority in my life. Early on, I realized the unique passion I had for swimming and decided to dedicate myself to the sport. I swam competitively for 15 years, and was fortunate enough to compete at a collegiate level as well. While completing my Bachelors of Science degree with an emphasis in Exercise Science at Fresno Pacific University, I competed nationally for the University and was part of the National Championship Team in 2012.
As much as I loved being an athlete, I knew the Lord was preparing me to share my experiences and knowledge to guide young athletes. I began coaching swimming for a local club team in 2013 and truly found where I felt purposeful. I soon realized my job as a coach was much more than creating faster swimmers, but to provide an environment where lasting skills, habits, and relationships could develop.
After “checking out” Crossfit a handful of times over the years, I finally joined Crossfit Valkommen in the summer of 2016. Transitioning from a collegiate training schedule to a self-motivated workout schedule presented many challenges. With my natural competitive side and desire to feel the same intensity I was experiencing while training in college, Crossfit provides a perfect environment for me to increase my fitness in new ways.
I know that God is continuing to provide me with opportunities to grow in my knowledge as well as utilize what I have already learned. I am excited to be a part of the Crossfit Valkommen family and work to provide a place where people feel comfortable in testing themselves to create healthier habits and lifestyles!
Bachelors of Science, Exercise Science at Fresno Pacific University, 2014
Tami has been an athlete from the time she was young. Preferring a basketball over a Barbie growing up, her parents knew she would need sports in her life. Being a 3 sport athlete in high school kept her busy and exposed her to some time in the weight room. In college she decided to study Kinesiology with the intent of teaching PE at Clay school. Things changed when Josh and Tami met. They got married and both settled in working on each of their families’ farms. But the passion that Tami had for sport and fitness was still there. After becoming stagnant in her workout routine a friend invited her to try out CrossFit. It only took one class and she was hooked! She’s been here at CF Valkommen since the beginning. Now a part owner she’s dedicated to bringing a great experience to our athletes.
CF-L1. Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology with a Secondary Teaching Emphasis and a Coaching minor.
John has always been up for a challenge, gowing up John swam, played football and various other sports through school. About 10 years ago John began running and entered various local events. Adding to this, he began competing in marathons, triathlons, and cycling. During this time, John was introduced to Crossfit by Craig Howard, co-owner of Diablo Crossfit in Northern California. While camping, John learned about Crossfit and the benefits it offered to his training. John found some buddies to workout in his garage in mid 2011, the group grew in size and John decided to start Crossfit Valkommen.
Being an athlete has always been my identity. I grew up playing multiple sports, then went on to college and played college baseball for Cal Poly SLO. I always thought that I was in pretty decent shape until I attended my first Crossfit class. Since that day I have made it my mission to push myself harder than before and be the best version of me as I get older. In July 2016 I decided to study and get my CF-LV1. Since then I have been teaching and learning and have dedicated myself to being a solid coach and motivator. I have found out over the last year that I can do so much more athletically then I thought I could ever do and Crossfit has brought that out of me.
My wife and I started Crossfit in 2014 a way to get into shape together, and to take all the “thinking” out of training with the coaching and programming Crossfit offers. Little did we know we absolutely fall in love with everything about Crossfit. As a three sport athlete in high school Crossfit caters to my athletic and competitive sides. It has also made me more prepared for the physically demanding aspects of my job as a firefighter/ paramedic. I have truly seen great progress in my health, fitness and nutrition since starting Crossfit. I feel blessed to pass on what I have learned as a Crossfit Level 1 Trainer.
Growing up I was always athletic, played lots of sports and just generally enjoyed pushing my body to see what it could do. However, slowly over the years other things started taking the place of sports in my life — school, marriage, having a baby and so on. Finally in May of 2014 after several years of not having any sort of dedication to fitness or a healthy routine, my husband and I joined a Crossfit gym. I have been hooked ever since. I originally joined to make a difference in my life and soon discovered that I was being called to help others make that same change for themselves. My husband and I completed the Crossfit Level 1 certification course in February of 2015 and together we have enjoyed watching people change their lives for the better. God has blessed me with the amazing opportunity to pass on the knowledge of using our bodies the way they were intended to be used and keeping them healthy in a world that glorifies gluttony, obesity and finds every excuse to take the easiest road available. Through Crossfit I have also been blessed with some amazing new relationships with people that I now consider my family! I love seeing new faces come into the gym, ready to take on the challenge of making a difference in their life!
Stone fruit farmer since 2010. Grew up riding dirt bikes, quads, hunting and bow fishing. Met my beautiful wife when I was kindergarten and we got married in 2011.
I was tired of being ‘skinny’ so I thought I’d give crossfit a try and I was hooked after the first day. I love the gymnastic movements in Crossfit but I love the challenge of the Olympic Lifts. I decided to get my CF-L1 to help spread my passion of Crossfit.
My faith is what defines me and I try to live like Christ every day. He died and rose for our sins and I think about that every time I start to ‘suffer’ in the middle of a workout. One verse that comes to my mind is Philippians 1:21, for to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain
